This painting is my dreamy abstract interpretation of a landscape inspired by aspects of the Lake District and drawing water, whether it be mist, clouds or Lakes. I am constantly drawn to fenland landscapes & water, they evoke the liminal quality of lakeland twilight where everything seems to shimmer between states.
Although my paintings are based on places and landscapes which hold an emotional resonance for me, the different interpretations of the same landscape also draw from different moods that I am feeling. This particular painting reflects a contemplative mood at a time I was navigating grief, and I think the fuzziness in the mood of the painting reflects that. Created during a period of quiet processing, this landscape uses layered washes and soft edges to evoke the hazy quality of meditation and memory.
