‘Trees in Rotterdam’ was inspired by a line of trees between Rotterdam Europoort and the city of Rotterdam. The landscape is flat and industrial but with interesting lines of uniform trees. The purpose of the painting, to find beauty in regimented nature amid utilitarian surroundings.

I originally intended to use paint to depict the many contrails in the sky but decided to use collaged photographs of trees taken at RHS Harlow Carr Gardens last Autumn.
